Our current actions and foreign policy, as Ron Paul points out, will change eventually, with bankruptcy, as all empires do.

Speaking of empire, LDS people who are attuned to light and knowledge rather than sophistry and propaganda, appreciate these statements of Gordon B. Hinckley:

Gordon B. Hinckley spoke of Empire

I was on a mission in the British Isles more than 70 years ago. Part of the British Empire was still intact. That empire was the most widely extended political family of nations on the face of the earth. It was said that the sun never set on the British Empire. The Union Jack flew around the world.

Great good came of that empire in many areas. But there was also tremendous suffering. It came as a result of conquest, oppression, war, and conflict. The remains of British soldiers were buried in graves around the earth.

Now it is all gone…

There is now another empire. It is the empire of Christ the Lord. It is the empire of the restored gospel. It is the kingdom of God. And the sun never sets on this kingdom. It has not come of conquest, of conflict, or war. It has come of peaceful persuasion, of testimony, of teaching, one here and another there.

As all of you are aware, this year we commemorate the 200th birthday of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the 175th anniversary of the organization of the Church.

The growth of the Church from its infancy to its present stature is phenomenal, and we have only scratched the surface. (Gordon B. Hinckley, “Opening Remarks,” Ensign, Nov 2005, 4) (Italics added.)

And matchless was this:

“We sometimes are prone to glorify the great empires of the past, such as the Ottoman Empire, the Roman and Byzantine Empires, and in more recent times, the vast British Empire. But there is a darker side to every one of them. There is a grim and tragic overlay of brutal conquest, of subjugation, of repression, and an astronomical cost in life and treasure.”  (Gordon B. Hinckley, “War and Peace,” Ensign, May 2003, 78)

Those in a state of stupor don’t draw the conclusion of current events, and that America is indeed an empire, with bases and military spread all over the world, it it not the Republic set up by the US Founders—a republic that was to “defend” its borders and domestic front, not go forth abroad “in search of monsters to destroy.”

Hugh Nibley (and the Book of Mormon) on preemptive War Part 2

This should not come as a shock, for right out of the Book of Mormon—for which the LDS Church is under “condemnation, a scourge and judgement” for having treated lightly this sacred volume of scripture—does this condemnation of preemptive war come.  Not only are latter-day saints under condemnation by the Lord for treating lightly the Book of Mormon, but Hugh Nibley points out the LDS people seem more prone of any championing a “military solution,” than other group. This is a damning indictment against people who otherwise profess to believe in the Book of Mormon.  Put frankly, warmongering prone latter-day saints don’t know the Book of Mormon, nor do they love it and abide its teachings in a political sense.

To the warmongering latter-day saint, this consideration from the recording is sobering:

“…and these very self satisfied, church conscious, and wicked people are about to be destroyed by war…”

Those who engage in preemptive war are delivered up to their enemies, the Book of Mormon clearly teaches, and their enemies will have great sway upon them.  God will not fight their battles when they engage in preemptive war and the “darker side of empire.”  No wonder the LDS church and it’s members are disapproved of by the Lord for treating lightly the Book of Mormon.  Many LDS, we observe, find themselves hostile toward the foreign policy of the US Founders as expressed by Ron Paul.  These folks are not only in opposition to the US Constitution, but to their own professed scripture.

But, on  a bright side, the trend is shifting and a younger generation more familiar with scripture, is rejecting the warmongering rhetoric of the other candidates, and joining with others in the nation of their peers.  These, also enlightened, reject the “sophistry” of “ambitious and scheming leaders” who bring the people into long and costly wars and thus oppress them with burdensome taxes—taxes put upon them through the mechanism of the Federal Reserve system of inflation, which permits mass spending by government which the most burdensome tax to be placed upon people, and hurts the elderly and those on fixed incomes who have saved.

Ron Paul indeed is not corruptible, and his appeal does run far and wide with all groups.

Mitt Romney and Richard Miller

I didn’t just vote for Mitt Romney in 2008, I donated to his campaign, asked others to donate, and volunteered at phone banks, fundraising events, the national call day in Boston, and at the Nevada caucuses. I’ve met him several times. I drank the Romney root beer (someone actually made some) and I have a Mitt Romney bobblehead. I even dressed up as Mitt Romney for Halloween 2007.

Mitt strikes me as exceptionally bright and a truly good man. We could certainly do worse than to have Mitt Romney as our president. And despite what we sometimes hear, I think I’d rather enjoy getting (root) beers with Mitt Romney. I found him to be plenty personable and warm.

However, I’d like to explain how I came to support Dr. Ron Paul. It’s been a really satisfying journey, and I’m far more enthusiastic about my candidate now.

In retrospect, I didn’t have strong reasons for supporting Mitt Romney. I usually said something like, “Well, he’s a very successful businessman and has an incredible resume of turning around failed companies.” To be fair, his resume is far better than most candidates’. But I couldn’t say much more than that.

Fortunately, there are some good people sprinkled throughout government, such as Michael Scheurer.  This salt among the loaf, keep us from being wiped off the face of the earth perhaps.  Students of the Book of Mormon are familiar with all the intricacies and warnings that are stated if/when corruption and the embracing and toleration of a vicious secret combination takes over full control in society.

Frightening are the results of nations who succumb to the wiles of scheming leaders who commit mass murder and preemptive war abroad as they orchestrate their Council on Foreign Relations agenda of the overthrow of the freedom of all nations, lands, and countries.  The Ancient American prophet Moroni warned of this threat, which some latter-day saints prefer to skip over in their sunday school classes, pleading the case at not being controversial.  The Lord does not approve his word being censored, and the warning is as strong as can be given from ancient writ to our eyes today.  Speaking to us Moroni says:

18 And it came to pass that they formed a secret combination, even as they of old; which combination is most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God;

19 For the Lord worketh not in secret combinations, neither doth he will that man should shed blood, but in all things hath forbidden it, from the beginning of man.

20 And now I, Moroni, do not write the manner of their oaths and combinations, for it hath been made known unto me that they are had among all people, and they are had among the Lamanites.

21 And they have caused the destruction of this people of whom I am now speaking, and also the destruction of the people of Nephi.

22 And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not.

23 Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain—and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be.

24 Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.

25 For it cometh to pass that whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people, for it is built up by the devil, who is the father of all lies; even that same liar whobeguiled our first parents, yea, even that same liar who hath caused man to commit murder from the beginning; who hathhardened the hearts of men that they have murdered the prophets, and stoned them, and cast them out from the beginning. (Ether 8: 18–25.)]

If and or when we loose these few people like Michael Sheurer, who take stands for truth and common sense in the tradition of the US Founders, then God’s decrees shall be fulfilled, warning what will befall this nation that rejects principles that God himself put his stamp of approval upon, namely those embodied in the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.

Joseph Fielding Smith Spoke of the Monroe Doctrine as critical to national safety, today it is trampled on and disregarded, cast aside for the worship of the American Empire

It should be noted that 9/11 would have been avoided had we not permitted this secret combination to get above us.  America, if she is to be safe, would bring her troops home from around the globe, and actually practice defense, as Ron Paul asserts.  This would be in step with the Monroe Doctrine, and we would cease as a nation to be in “search of monsters to destroy” and wasting vast blood and treasure in this mindless crusade for Empire—not your empire, if you be some sorry tax paying hack and slave—it is the empire of the elite bankers and moneyed monster or “money trust” as it was called in the press a hundred years ago.  Bombing Iraq for 10 years, murdering vast numbers of Iraqi children is an evil and a crime.  Make note of the Monroe Doctrine, and how central it is to our national defense—a defense from Almighty God to keep us safe and secure from enemies abroad:

“The great­est and most pow­er­ful  for­ti­fi­ca­tion in Amer­ica is the  ‘Mon­roe Doc­trine.’ … It was the inspi­ra­tion of the Almighty which  rested upon John Quincy Adams, Thomas Jef­fer­son and other states­men, and which finally found author­i­ta­tive  expres­sion in the mes­sage of  James Mon­roe to Con­gress in  the year 1823” (Joseph Field­ing Smith, The Progress Of Man, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., pp. 466–67).

In the 1986 First Presidency Christmas Devotional, LDS Church President Ezra Taft Benson, a seer, surveying the entire church, made a most stark observation:
